The scope of works comprised of four Separable Portions, the construction of a new multi-storey car park, construction of a new extension to the main hospital building referred to as the Ambulatory Care building together with refurbishment of the existing Theatres and Cath labs, construction of the new Comprehensive Cancer Care building and the Refurbishment of the main building up to and including the Wards on Level 7.
In addition to the works referred to above a new Chapel, Café, Retail Shop, roadworks within the Hospital complex and roadworks for the Subiaco and Cambridge Councils had to be constructed together with extensive landscaping works.
Regardless of the complexity of the building works that had to be carried out, the hospital’s activities had priority over all building works. We had to remember that the hospital came first and the building works second.
Set times were instigated by the hospital where ‘no noise works’ were allowed to be carried out, this was to enable patients to have quiet times, this involved substantial planning and policing to make sure this requirement was adhered to. Notwithstanding our compliance with all the hospitals regulations and conditions there was a number of occasions where a delicate operation may be taking place (say an eye operation) where we were instructed to immediately stop all works.
